We all hear about things that are “Public Record.” It’s one of those terms that means many things to many folks. Few people realize that most documents filed with the Court in lawsuits—and a divorce is a lawsuit—are Public Record. There are many documents which are perfectly harmless (apart from the anguish most divorces cause) but there are many more with great potential for mischief. In today’s information savvy world these records are searched (often online, without a great deal of effort) by employers, investigators and even plain old nosy busybodies.
Here at Cunningham Dalman we take your privacy very seriously. There are many ways to avoid making documents part of the Public Record and even ways to “seal” them from the public eye when it is necessary to file them with the court.
